Notch from Artist's Bluff

    Franconia Notch - 2200'

Franconia Notch State Park rivals the Mt Washington area as the favorite tourist and hiker destination in the White Mountains. The most famous resident is the Old Man of the Mountains, a rock formation on the side of Cannon Mountain. There are many other attractions, including the Flume Gorge, Profile Lake, Echo Lake, the Basin, and Boise Rock.

The Cannon Ski Area and Tram is at the northern end of the notch. In the middle is the Lafayette Place Campground. There are many trails that start just off the Franconia Parkway which runs through the park, including the Old Bridle Path, Falling Waters, Lonesome Lake, Skookumchuck and Liberty Springs trails.

On the west side of the notch are North and South Kinsman, Lonesome Lake Hut, and Cannon Mountain. On the east side of the notch is Franconia Ridge, consisting of Lafayette with Greenleaf Hut, Lincoln, Liberty, and Flume.
