The Willey range, consisting of Mts Tom, Field and Willey, is located on the west side of Crawford Notch. Mt Willey is named after a family that was killed in a landslide in 1826 and rhymes with "silly". The summit is wooded summit but there is an open ledge just south of the summit with nice views of the notch.
From the Crawford Depot the main route is up the Avalon trail to the Willey Range Trail for a total distance of 4.2 miles. Starting at the Willey House site you can take the Kedron Flume Trail to the Willey Range Trail for a distance of 2.7 miles. This route has some steep ladders which can be difficult for some hikers.
