Franconia Notch in snow

October 27th, 2006

Lonesome Lake

Hike up to Kinsman Pond on Saturday with an AMC group. More snow then anticipated when the trip was planned but we all had fun. Trip Report

Handstand on Cannon summit
I also finally published a trip report from March of 2006, hiking up Cannon in snow. I’m so behind on trip reports. :(

Wyoming - Wind Rivers and Tetons

October 27th, 2006

Cirque of the Towers

Yikes, I’m way behind. In early Sept I went to Wyoming for 2 weeks of wonderful hiking in the Wind Rivers and Tetons. I only have one trip report completed, more to come. There were 3 two-night backpacks, plus one canoe daytrip and one day driving through Yellowstone, so lots of photos on the way.

Missed a whole month

August 30th, 2006

OK, lots of hiking but not much writing. On the last weekend in July I hike Eisenhower and Pierce on Saturday in the fog, then Franconia Ridge on Sunday in the bright sunshine. In August I did an overnight on the Bonds, then dayhikes up Whiteface and East Sleeper, and finally a rainy hike up to the Beaver Brook shelter on Moosilauke. Lots to write up, lots of images to process.

Lafayette via Skookumchuck

July 13th, 2006

Brenda on the ridge
I hiked up Lafayette with Brenda on Saturday via the Skookumchuck trail, then down to the hut and out via the Greenleaf trail and a walk along the bikepath. It was a hot, muggy day, and lots of bugs, but nice above treeline. I took lots of video, so a movie with actual moving images is soon to follow.

Tripyramids for a 48!

July 3rd, 2006

Yoga, Tripyramid style
Did the Tripyramids this weekend with Adamiata and HockeyCrew. It was Adam’s 48th but he didn’t let me know until we had already started hiking, so no champagne. Great day for a hike, the slides were dry but it started raining when we were back on the Livermore Road. All the pics here and a short video.

South Twin/Galehead via Galehad Hut

June 26th, 2006

Layers of Mountains

A hot hike up to Galehead Hut, then up the steep Twinway to South Twin. My hiking partner Brenda headed up to Galehead summit instead, so we got two peaks for the price of one. All the pictures

Hot weekend in the Presidentials

June 22nd, 2006

Two trips from this past weekend. On Saturday I hike up Pierce to meet up with many friends who were doing a one-day Presidential Traverse. I carried up some ice cream and chocolate for them which seemed to be appreciated.
Leaving Pierce
I also put together a short video of the festivities.

On Sunday Brenda and I dragged Christine (who’d just done a Traverse!) back up Jefferson via Castle Ravine and returned via Castilated Ridge.

Weather Report

June 5th, 2006

I added some weather links to the front page; a current radar animation and some current temps for Lincoln and Mt Washington. I may play with them a bit over time.

One new trip report from last year: Greenleaf Gourmet

Two Rainy weekends

May 21st, 2006

Last weekend I was helping run an AMC Harvard Cabin weekend. In the rain, we hiked Mts Stanton and Pickering in the southern end of Montalben Ridge, then up to Arethusa Falls on Sunday.

This weekend I hiked the Osceolas in the rain with friends. It was fine up until the summit of East Osceola, then it rained the rest of the way out. Lovely.
