Madison - 6/7/08

June 19th, 2008

This hike was supposed to be the beginning of a one day Traverse, and it was for most of the group, but I was a bit unsure from the start. Lei and I started earlier then the rest, around 4:15, and headed up the Daniel Webster Scout trail in the dark. We only needed headlamps for the first 20 minutes or so, and we caught the sun coming up just above treeline. The bulk of the group (much faster hikers) caught up with us around the Osgood trail junction. On the way over the top of Madison I took a spill and sprained my wrist pretty bad. That ended the day for me.

A few others were having some issues as well so a few of us hung at the hut and regrouped. Jen and Michael were having trouble keeping food down, Woody was content for a day that just included Madison, and Annalisa was just planning on a morning hike and she had a car at Appalachia. So we climbed up to the Airline Junction and took a leisurely trip down from there. Aside from the sore wrist and a few jammed fingers, it was a great day.

Otto Rhodes, well known skiing facilitator, opened for business on Memorial Day weekend. Great weather, lots of snow, and a well placed BBQ grill later, we were in business.

Garfield - 5/18/08

Mike on the summit
Mike contacted me on Saturday saying that he was planning a hike up Garfield on Sunday. I wasn’t planning on going so far north but hiking with someone was appealing so off we went. No snow until about 3500′ but from there on it was steady all the way to the summit. Nice day, not too many people, and the weather held off until we were down.

Yoga?

May 14th, 2008

After posing in the Tree pose on mountains all over the northeast I finally took a yoga class at work today. Ouch, I’m not very flexible. I think I’ll keep these up for a while.

Yikes! The winter is gone!

May 12th, 2008

OK, time to get back on board and keep the site updated on a regular bases.

Did a quick trip to the Skyline trail at the Blue Hills Reservation on Sunday. Nice 10 mile training hike, and saw a cute owl who was nesting way too close to the trail.

Yikes! The summer is gone!

October 16th, 2007

I updated the trips page for most of my summer hikes, and many more from last year. I’ve updated a few mountain pages recently, more to come. I haven’t forgotten Hike The Whites! Also look for links to a bunch of videos I created on the ski page.

Gourmet and Galehead

June 4th, 2007

Memorial Day weekend we had the 3rd (4th) annual Gourmet hut weekend, organized by Seema. Great food, lots of goofy people, and peaks galore! I bagged Galehead on Saturday, then the Twins on Sunday with MEB and Bunchberry.

Wow, ski season is almost over. It’s been a while since the last update, but I’ve been out skiing a lot since December in Utah. More coming soon.
